  1. Colleran PN, Behnke BJ, Wilkerson MK, Donato AJ, Delp MD. Simulated microgravity alters rat mesenteric artery vasoconstrictor dynamics through an intracellular Ca2+ release mechanism. Am J Physiol Regul Integr Comp Physiol. 2008 Mar 19; [Epub ahead of print] (PI: M.D. Delp) Note: C.A. Ray commented on this paper in an Editorial Focus entitled "New insights into orthostatic hypotension." He states: "Hence, this study is the first to fully describe the effects of hindlimb unloading on the adrenergic vasoconstrictor dynamics of mesenteric arteries [a change in rate of constriction was found], and the first to describe the impairment of the Ca2+-release mechanism in the dysfunction of the vasoconstrictor response."
  2. Delp MD. Unraveling the complex web of impaired wound healing with mechanical unloading and physical deconditioning. J Appl Physiol. 2008 Mar 20; [Epub ahead of print] (PI: M.D. Delp) Note: This is a comment on the significance of a paper by Radek et al. that appeared in CA list 2/29/08. The Radek et al. paper indicated impaired keratinocyte and endothelial cell function during wound healing in hindlimb-unloaded rats, with implications for bed rest or inactive geriatric patients.
  3. De Witt JK, Hagan RD, Cromwell RL. The effect of increasing inertia upon vertical ground reaction forces and temporal kinematics during locomotion. J Exp Biol. 2008 Apr;211(Pt 7):1087-92. Note: This Wyle/NASA study, supported by the Exercise Countermeasures Project at NASA JSC, is described in a commentary by K. Phillips, which can be obtained without cost at. A photograph of the experimental setup is included.
